In partnership with Thurgood Marshall College (TMC), CREATE has overseen and collaborated in the establishment of three partnership schools: The Preuss School, Gompers Preparatory Academy (GPA), and Lincoln High School (LHS). These three schools work with historically under-served communities to support their youth throughout high school, and in seeking an education that prepares them to be college-ready. This is done through a college preparatory school culture which emphasizes higher education as an attainable and beneficial opportunity.
One of the key aspects of the partnership between UCSD and these three schools is the presence of UCSD students on each school's campus.
UCSD students serve as tutors and interns. They are the face of college, and are seen as positive role models and mentors. Students have inspired and motived countless middle and high school students to pursue their college and career dreams. This partnership is mutually beneficial. Former UCSD interns and tutors have taken advantage of this opportunity via class credit for their work and have used these internships to get into medical school and counseling programs, all while gaining excellent resume experience.
Lincoln High is composed of four small schools: The Center for Social Justic, The Center for Science and Engineering, The Center for the Arts and The Center for Public Safety. Opportunities to work with programs such as English Language Learner, Special Education Student, AVID and all academic subjects are avaliable.
