Organization and Responsibilities Description
Center for Community Solutions (CCS) is a 501(c)3 private, nonprofit in San Diego County, with the mission to end relationship and sexual violence by being a catalyst for caring communities and social justice. CCS offers services including advocacy, counseling, emergency shelters, transitional housing, a 24-hour hotline, and prevention and education programs. Students help educate the community and raise awareness on issues of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Elder Abuse by participating in tabling, presentations, workshops, activities, and events.
Position 1:
Prevention & Education Volunteer (6-month commitment) - Availability varies by quarter
- Position Summary:To help educate the community and raise awareness on issues of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Elder Abuse by participating in tabling, presentations, workshops, activities, events.
- Location and Hours: Varies based on events, workshops, special projects. Some volunteer hours must be completed at the Pacific Beach CCS office during business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.), but many of the hours will be at various locations in the community.
- Volunteer Job Functions:
- Outreaching to the community through tabling, presentations, workshops and activities
- Participating in Health Fairs, school events and various community events
- Providing prevention and education to the community on issues of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault by way of presenting and speaking to schools, faith based communities, colleges/universities, community based organizations, and the general public
Position 2:
Resource Development Volunteer (6-month commitment) - Availability varies by quarter
- Position Summary:Provide support to the Development Department in one or more of the following areas: event planning, donor research, database support, social media, PR and marketing, administrative and clerical support.
- Location and Hours: Volunteer hours must be completed at the Pacific Beach CCS office during business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm). Occasional evening or weekend for events. Volunteers can have a regular shift but we also welcome volunteers who have some flexibility to accommodate site needs. The number of weekly hours of involvement will affect the types of tasks and projects students can work on.
- Volunteer Job Functions:
- Assist with special projects related to social media, graphic design, communications, event planning, fundraising, donor relations, grant research and more
- Organize Development files and documents
- Complete clerical tasks (copies, scans, faxes, mailings, etc)
- Conduct follow up calls as needed
Position 3:
Administrative Support Volunteer
- Position Summary: Provide support at the front desk at a Center for Community Solutions office: Pacific Beach, El Cajon, San Marcos.
- Location and Hours: Volunteer hours must be completed at the Pacific Beach CCS office during business hours: Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Occasional evening or weekend for events. Volunteers can have a regular shift but we also welcome volunteers who have some flexibility to accommodate site needs.
- Volunteer Job Functions:
- Greet clients, staff, volunteers and other visitors.
- Respond to and transfer calls
- Provide general information about CCS services to callers and visitors
- Complete clerical tasks (copies, scans, faxes etc)
- Provide support with various administrative projects as needed
- Work on data entry projects
- Help with tasks relating to special events, fundraisers
Position 4:
Children's Activities
- Position:Leader of Children’s Activities
- Position Summary:Provide creative activities to children exposed to domestic violence who reside at CCS emergency shelters
- Location and Hours:Various as based on needs. East County or North County. Those interested in this position will get more details about needs for upcoming months.
- Volunteer Job Functions:
- Provide goal oriented activities for children
- Organize activity materials and shopping list of needed supplies
- Communicate any needs or concerns expressed by the children to Shelter Site Manager
- Assist in recruiting volunteer speakers to educate children on various topics
- Volunteer regularly each month as agreed with Shelter Site Manager

Orientation Requirement
Monthly volunteer orientation available. Students not able to attend the scheduled volunteer orientation can contact the Volunteer Manager to see about other possibilities. Once confirmed as Prevention & Education Volunteers OR Resource Development Volunteer, students will complete a required training specific to the position assigned.

Research Availability
Varies by position. Regular business hours for the central CCS office in Pacific Beach are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Dress Code
Business Casual.
Testing Requirements
- Letter of Clearance from Field Research Coordinator
- Volunteer orientation attendance
- Meeting with Director of the program assigned
- Livescan clearance
