Organization and Responsibilities Description
The Early Childhood Education Center is a play-based preschool located on the East Campus of UCSD. The student researcher will observe and participate in classroom activities with children, under teacher supervision. Specific responsibilities will depend on the age group of children and the teacher's instructions. The student researcher may help develop and set up projects, design and implement lesson plans, etc. Final paper may concern teaching methods, day care ethics issues, interpersonal relationships of children, etc.
Age(s) of Participants
3 months to 5 years old.
Orientation Requirement
Orientation meeting prior to first day of research to be coordinated amongst all students placed at ECEC (contact Field Research Coordinator for list of students if not provided). During the orientation, students must review handbook on ECEC goals, rules, ethical responsibilities, appropriate language and procedures for encouraging and disciplining children, confidentiality issues, etc.
Check-in procedure
Sign-in at the office before proceeding to the classroom.
Research Availability
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Appointments must be made depending on parent and teacher consent. Analysis of tapes can be done on campus (lab in CSB 217B), variable hours.
Dress Code
Neat, casual attire with closed-toed shoes.
Clearance Requirements
- Letter of Clearance from the Field Research Coordinator
- TB test
- Immunization record for Measles and Pertussis vaccinations
- Proof of seasonal influenza vaccination (as soon as it is available)
